Bloody Nora!

I completely forgot about this blog, and found it only because I've been thinking about starting writing again. So I log on to Blogger, and whaddayaknow, there it is. Turns out I don't have to start from scratch.

Originally, this blog was designed to keep my non-existent followers updated on my research -- more specifically my PhD thesis which ended up not being called With Great Diversity anyway, more about which soon. Since I last posted, a mind-boggling number of life-changing events have taken place. One thing is that I became single, something I shall not dwell on here. Another is that I submitted my thesis in time and defended it with success. Third, I got a job as an associate professor (or senior lecturer or reader or whatever is the correct translation of "førsteamanuensis"). Unfortunately it is not in Bergen, but way out north-west, in Volda University College. Which is a fine institution of learning, peopled -- by all means -- by nice, kind and intelligent colleagues. I am sure I will enjoy my time there. But I am also pretty sure I will be glad when it is over and I can go back to civilization, i.e. a place where you can get Indian food any time you want. Fourth: I've suddenly and unexpectedly become the managing editor of EMCO.

The thesis ended up being called Shakespeare in Configuration: Models, Comics and Manga, a title so bland I actually had to look it up now. The contents are much better than the title. The PhD defense took place on February 28 this year and went quite well. It wasn't perfect, but what the hey, water under the bridge and all that. Future blog posts may address what I will do in terms of research after this, but for now I am just happy that this leg of the journey is over and done with.

The next time I feel like there's something I need to write, this is the place to do it, I think. I hope I won't forget about this blog again, but that I'll actually use it. I'm planning to write a piece on Petter Amundsen, and I need to come up with something on Shakespeare's language for the Szeged BSDN symposium, to be held in September. Until next time.
